At the 17th Ave Studio (1420 NW 17th Ave)
The Circus Project’s main entrance is wheelchair accessible. There is a 17-foot long concrete ramp to access the front door, which is 33 inches wide (and somewhat heavy).
There is also a back entrance to the building. To enter from the back, there is a 43-foot long concrete loading ramp, enter the door (41-inches wide, somewhat heavy) proceed down the hallway and turn left, and the back door to The Circus Project will be on the right. This is a shared hallway with multiple businesses, and also the access to additional building bathrooms.
Parking for The Circus Project is street parking, and visitors with mobility needs are welcome to temporarily pull into the small shared parking lot in front of The Circus Project as a drop-off location. We also have a parking lot with 3-hour parking behind the building. The studio is a short distance from bus stops (24), and streetcar (A/B)
The Circus Project’s 17th Ave Studio has two stories. The main gym and all aerial points are on the ground level. The second story contains administrative offices, the dance studio and a mezzanine seating area. The second story is up a flight of 20 stairs, with a handrail on both sides. The second floor does not have elevator access.
The Circus Project has an all-user, wheelchair-accessible bathroom, including a support bar, on the ground floor. There are two additional all-user, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms in the back hallway of the ground floor, shared by multiple businesses.
Classes
Aerial classes occur in the main gym, on the ground level. Non-aerial classes like flexibility, handbalancing, and juggling classes often occur in our dance studio on the second story. The main viewing area for classes is on the mezzanine on the second story, but we are happy to accommodate friends or family viewing from the ground floor as well.
Shows
For shows at the 17th Ave Studio, the performance and main audience seating area is on the ground floor. The floor is hard and flat, and seating varies given the show but usually consists of stacked gymnastics mats, wooden chairs and taller stools — these can be rearranged as needed to accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility aids. If you need a seat closer/further from the stage due to hearing or vision needs please contact frontdesk@thecircusproject.org in advance to reserve a space.
ASL interpretation will be provided on a show-by-show basis.
There is additional audience seating on the mezzanine, overlooking the stage, on the second floor.
Alcoholic beverages may be served depending on the event - this information will be included in event communications.
We request that visitors do not use synthetic fragrances such as perfume or cologne while in our studio.
At the Outdoor Domes (3201 S Moody Ave)
The Domes site is just south of Tilikum Crossing (pedestrian bridge), and directly on bicycle, bus, light rail and streetcar routes. Onsite parking or drop-off is available for folks who use wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Please contact frontdesk@thecircusproject.org in advance of your visit so that we can make sure to have a space reserved for you. The ground is packed gravel and dirt, with some loose stones.
**Please do not use the small parking lot in front of the Domes main entrance - that is reserved for the nearby businesses. Parking is on the street or in a nearby paid garage or lot.
Public Transit
Streetcar: NS (walking distance to A/B lines)
Bus stops: 35, 36, 38, 43, 45, 54, 56, 55, 92, 99
Light rail: Orange Line
OHSU Tram Terminal
Entrances to the Domes site are not ADA compliant. There are two entrances, the most visible entrance is up a steep gravel driveway (20% grade) and through a large open gate (23’ wide). Another entrance is on the SE corner of the lot and up a flight of 7 concrete stairs.
This is an outdoor space and experiences direct sunlight until the afternoon, when tall trees on the West side shade the lot. The Domes themselves are covered with stretched fabric to provide protection from the sun.
Classes
Aerial classes occur inside the Domes. Entrances to the Domes are 9’ tall and 4’ wide at the narrowest. During classes, a tarp is laid down on top of the gravel and dirt lot, and mats are laid on top of the tarp for classes — these might be yoga mats, gymnastics panel mats, or thick crash mats, depending on the use.
Non-aerial classes (juggling, partner acrobatics, etc) might happen inside the Domes, or outside the Domes on the gravel and dirt lot.
Events
During shows and events, the seating area is outside of the Domes themselves, spread out on the gravel lot. Seating will vary but it’s possible you will need to bring your own seating — please see event details for more information. Due to the nature of the Domes, some seats may have an obscured view of the stage. If you need a seat closer/further from the stage due to hearing or vision needs please contact frontdesk@thecircusproject.org in advance to reserve a space.
ASL interpretation will be provided on a show-by-show basis.
Alcoholic beverages may be served depending on the event - this information will be included in event communications.
We request that visitors do not use synthetic fragrances such as perfume or cologne while on site.
